U.S. Army Paratrooper Uniform

U.S. Army Paratrooper uniform

An average U.S. Army paratrooper in Operation Overlord, members of the 82nd or 101st Airborne Divisions, would have been equipped with combinations and variations of the following standard clothing, equipment and weapons.

Due to the large amount of equipment that they carried, many paratroopers had to be assisted in boarding their transport planes prior to a jump.

Clothing

  • M1C helmet and liner (optional netting)
  • M1941 watchcap (knit wool)
  • M1942 jump jacket
  • Shirt (wool or herring bone twill)
  • Undershirt (crew neck t-shirt or tank top)
  • M1942 jump trousers with cargo pockets (wool, herring bone twill or cotton)
  • Belt
  • Gloves (horsehide)
  • Socks and long underwear (wool)
  • Corcoran or Goodrich jump boots, or M1943 buckle boots
