Pre-sighting
Pre-sighting is the process of documenting the range and deflection required to accurately fire a weapon at a fixed position. On Omaha Beach the Germans had pre-sighted the entire beach, and German soldiers had sketches of their area of the beach which gave them the necessary information to accurately fire their weapons at the invading Allied soldiers.
Notes
Captain Miller makes reference to pre-sighting during the assault on Omaha Beach when he tries to explain to the young and terrified soldiers that they cannot hide behind beach obstacles and expect to survive.
