Adjutant General's Department
The Adjutant General's Department of the United States Army was responsible for managing all matters involving Army personnel, including postal operations, recruitment, unit strength management, casualty reporting, discharge, retirement, and a variety of other tasks.
The position of Adjutant General dates back to June of 1775, making the Adjutant General the second oldest branch in the U.S. Army. In 1950 the name of this branch was changed to the Adjutant General's Corps.
